Why Become a Commissioner


If you are looking to become more active in your city becoming a commissioner is a great way to get involved. The City has several commissions: Parks and Recreation Commission, Environmental Commission, Planning Commission and Housing Commission, Commissions meet at a variety of different times once per month or twice a month for the Planning Commission. As a Commissioner you will apply your knowledge of the community and expertise in specific areas to help advise the city council and city staff on projects, programs, budgets, city code and more. The Planning Commission is unique in that it is governed by state law. Its major responsibility is drafting the comprehensive plan. The next comprehensive plan is due in 2018. How to Apply


Applications are accepted from January through the first week of May. The City Council interviews candidates on the third Monday of May at 5:00PM. The Council selects and appointments commission members at 7:00PM on our cable channel. New commissioners must be interviewed. All current commissioners have the opportunity to interview with the Council. Interviews last approximately 15 minutes and are held in the Mayor's Conference room at City Hall.

The application must be completed prior to the interviews. The application or online application may be sent by mail, fax or email to the City Clerk. Should you have any questions regarding the process the City Clerk can answer any questions you may have.
