Police Citizen Academy

The Inver Grove Heights and South St Paul Police Department is excited to announce openings for its 2017 Citizen’s Academy.  The program is designed to offer citizen’s an inside look into the Police Department’s operations.  A wide spectrum of topics will be covered to include:
  • Tour of the police department
  • History of the police department
  • Functions of patrol, investigations, M.A.A.G., negotiators, bike patrol, traffic & K-9 units
  • Review of typical calls for service
  • DWI demonstration
  • Traffic stops
  • Officer survival and use of force
  • Laws of arrest
  • Searching and handcuffing a suspect

The academy classes will be taught by Inver Grove Heights and South St Paul Police Officers.  We ask that you make a commitment to attend each session. The Sessions will be held each Tuesday from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. The sessions will begin on September 5th and run until November 7th.  After the successful completion of this program, citizens will be given an opportunity to ride-along with an Officer for 4 hours during his or her shift.  If you are interested in participating in the citizen’s academy, fill out an Application form and return it to either the South St. Paul or Inver Grove Heights Police Department no later than Friday August 11th 2017.  Participation will be limited, please register early if interested.
