City Pothole Repair

Streets Maintenance graphic

It’s that time of the year where the effects of winter and the spring thaw, re-freeze and thaw again really show on our roads….in the form of potholes.

Our City has 150 miles of paved streets, which our crews help maintain. This past winter season has brought the worst in potholes that our crews have seen yet, as our roadways continue to age. We already have crews out working on pothole repair throughout the city, beginning with the worst potholes that have the highest degree of causing damage to vehicles and other road traffic. And then crews will return to patch the remaining. Because of the cooler temps in spring, our crews were patching with a “cold mix,” which is a shorter term fix that is the only option during the cooler season. With the weather now warmer, our crews have moved to using a “hot mix,” which allows them to compact during installation, creating a stronger, more dense patchwork and a longer term fix for the road.

And just because a street is patched, does not mean it will not need more patching in the same season. So our crews are out all of the warm weather season addressing potholes.
